About: Genelec UNIO PRM Personal Reference Monitoring System

The Personal Reference Monitoring (PRM) concept bridges in-room and headphone monitoring by enabling the user to seamlessly transition between a calibrated loudspeaker system and headphone-based monitoring. This enables efficient workflows, productivity, and reliability in audio engineering work.

The PRM is an active reference monitoring solution using 9320A SAMTM Reference Controller and 8550A Reference Headphones. This matched system enables the user to access the full content of audio and achieve the highest monitoring accuracy.

The active operating principle exploits the unique combination of the 9320A headphone output with a specific serial number of 8550A. The signal processing in the 9320A applies the unique Genelec factory calibration. This active operating principle enables precise and extremely linear system output, removing unit-to-unit variations and resulting in high precision of reproduction.

  • Mobility and more versatile access to monitoring
  • Bridging the gap between calibrated in-room loudspeaker monitoring and personal headphone monitoring
  • User adjustable equalization
  • Precise resolution supported by the isolation/ closed-back design of the headphones
  • Excellent acoustic precision with neutral sound character
  • Each 8550A is electronically matched and optimized within the 9320A headphone amplifier
  • Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) calibration software integration
  • 9320A: direct connectivity to analogue and digital stereo or 2.1 monitoring of audio signals input
  • 9320A: supports compensation of the monitoring system output sensitivity, enabling smooth switching between all connected monitoring systems as well as switching to Genelec SAM monitoring systems controlled by 9320A

The freedom to engineer audio anywhere

Bringing the precise resolution and adaptive power of our Smart Active Monitoring (SAM), GLM and Aural ID Technology to the engineer's fingertips, UNIO allows the rapid creation of mixes that translate with maximal consistency.

Imagine leaving the studio, putting on headphones and tapping into a listening experience that’s tightly matched to your trusted in-room SAM Monitors. The 9320A SAM Reference Controller – especially within our UNIO PRM solution – is uniquely positioned to offer you this ability, with the precision required to mix with confidence every time.

UNIO Personal Reference Monitoring

UNIO PRM provides powerful reference-quality audio monitoring via our 8550A Professional Reference Headphones, each of which we calibrate individually at our factory in Iisalmi, Finland – carefully matching them to the 9320A SAM Reference Controller, for total accuracy.

This uniquely matched system represents a pioneering new active monitoring headphone solution with exceptional sonic reliability, taking the UNIO Ecosystem’s seamless bridging of in-room and personal headphone monitoring to a whole new level.

Specifications

The headphone output is usually described using the headphone sensitivity or the headphone efficiency.

The headphone sensitivity explains how high sound level is created with a known magnitude of electronic input, given as the sound level (dB SPL) at the ear per voltage input to the headphone. The typical unit is dB SPL at 1 Vrms input voltage.

The headphone efficiency is given as the sound level (dB SPL) at the ear generated with a given input electrical power. The typical unit is dB SPL at 1 mW input power.

The headphone impedance of the headphone determines how much electrical current flow into the headphone at a given input voltage. The typical unit is ohms.
